Anybody who ever went to Machon Shlomo in the Rosenberg days knows that his favorite topic was how only Machon Shlomo did things the right way, how the ends don't justify the means in Jewish outreach. His favorite targets were Aish, for all the secularity it mixes into its outreach, and Chabad for giving a stipend to its summer program. Rosenberg would practically froth at the mouth when talking about them.
Well, now we have Meor that is far more secular than Aish ever was and who offers stipends not to people who travel to a summer program like Chabad did, but to college kids who just show up at the Student Union for the ridiculous Meor Leaders fellowship where attractive young men and women sit and hang out together (and you just know that they hook up afterward).
Here's Meor as described in the Jewish Journal.
"Through Meor, young, secular Jews find connection through drinks, socializing and Torah"
"The scene inside the brick-walled locale minutes from New York’s Union Square has the typical trappings of a Manhattan hangout. On a recent Wednesday, 20-somethings in jeans and button-downs crowd around tables, raising their voices to be heard over the loud pop music. The bar is stocked with bottles of Heineken and Blue Moon, wine, and liquor and mixers for cocktails."
Aish was never that bad.
Well they have totally turned their backs on Rosenberg haven't they? No, they still have that minimalistic program of Gemara b'iyun and Chumash with Rashi, still don't teach Hebrew or halacha and machshava, still don't leave the building, still don't bring anyone in the building. They still are anti-intellectual even as they try to recruit students from elite schools. So are they honoring him or not? What they are doing is what they have always done which is abusing the students, depriving them and messing with their heads all to make a name for themselves.
