Let’s talk about real heroism for a second. On the Iron Shark roller coaster at Galveston’s Pleasure Pier, a massive mechanical failure left eight charter school students trapped. They were dangling nearly 100 feet in the air, facing dead skyward under a baking Texas sun for four straight hours. The Galveston Fire Department showed up and immediately put their lives on the line. They extended a massive 105-foot tower truck to it’s limit over the water, scaled the structure in the extreme heat, and manually strapped each terrified student into safety harnesses to pull them out one by one. The ride is completely shut down and under federal investigation before it ever opens again. But these first responders didn't hesitate. They just showed up and did the job.
