"Religious" Zionists will respond to all criticism of Israel (except their own) by saying it's lashon hara on the land, even when you are not talking about the land. You are talking about the society.
Now, they criticize the society all the time. They condemn the Haredim, they condemn the lefties as they call them.
Tell me what's worse, criticizing a secular state founded by atheists or criticizing religious communities in America? RZ's do the latter all the time, condemning the entirely of Western religious society for not moving to Israel. Is that not real lashon hara?
And is criticizing Israeli society a sin at all? Gadolim have been doing it for 100 years. If they are all sinning, then we have a really big problem.
The Jews in the desert were not coming to live with the Canaanites. They were coming to displace them. Only question was could they do it? Well Hashem said they could, so that's that.
Jews today are not coming to displace the Israelis but live under their rule. So you better have your wits about you and be realistic about what they are. That is your duty as Hashem did not promise that you'd be successful. He did not command you to move to Israel in the period after the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash and the Sanhedrin.
