Who is the worst actor in the long history of Hollywood? How so?
Peter Sellers.
A very talented and funny performer but an absolute asshole to work and live with.
He terrorized Britt Ekland with manic behaviour that included alcohol and cocaine binges, threats and acts of physical violence along with controlling her career and her life. His other three wives had similar stories to tell about him including him threatening one them with a shotgun. When he divorced a wife, she was left as penniless as he could make them.
His children were terrified of him and, like his wives, he would threaten and bully them with the added twist of waking them up in the middle of the night asking if he should divorce their mother. When they became adults, he insisted that his children take their mother’s maiden name and cut them off from any support and had them taken out of his will.
On set, he would show up drunk or high as well as freak out and smash props or throw them at people who pissed him off at that instant. Very few directors or actors would work with him more than once. He insisted on having other actors and stage hands fired for a variety of reasons, the weirdest one discussed below. This behaviour was tolerated and no action was taken to bring in medical professionals because he was a major star and made money for the studios - it also meant that, along with his addiction issues, his heart problems (which would lead to his death at 54) went untreated.
He was told by director Vittorio de Sica (who worked with Sellers on “Bicycle Thieves”) that the colour purple meant death - after that Sellers would fly into a rage anytime he saw something purple on set and would insist that anybody he saw wearing purple were to be fired immediately.

1925–1939: Early life and career beginnings
[edit]Sellers was born on 8 September 1925 in Southsea, a suburb of Portsmouth. His parents were Yorkshire-born William "Bill" Sellers and Agnes Doreen "Peg" (née Marks).
In 1935 the Sellers family moved to North London and settled in Muswell Hill.[12] Although Bill Sellers was Protestant and Peg was Jewish, Sellers attended the nearby Roman Catholic school St Aloysius' College in Highgate, run by the Brothers of Our Lady of Mercy.[3]
