I have said this here before but I'll say it again, instincts are a major tool for successful living, but the main goal of the yeshiva world is to shut down your instincts. What is their message if not "don't trust yourself." Along with that comes, obey your rav, and who is he, he is any schmuck that teaches at Ohr Somayach. You must have one of these they say, as if having a schmuck of your own will help your life in any way. It's so stupid. It makes no sense, but you will hear it everywhere, and that's because the yeshiva world is a sick place. They operate from memorized dogmas that they made up along the way. And you trust them because they tell you to and you assume no Jew would ever be careless with you. Orthodox Jews are all wonderful, right, right, right? No, they are not. Do not have a rav. And do shut down your instincts.
