They blame it on the Chassidim

It's commonplace for yeshivish guys (many but not all) in the yeshiva world to dump on Chassidim. They do this without blinking. Even when criticizing the yeshiva world, they blame the Chassidim for their problems, Take conformity in dress for example. Oh, they got that from the Chassidim - that's the claim. But is it true? Consider these photos:

Vizhnitzer Rebbe in Switzerland, presumably  with Chassidim, note all the different kinds of dress of the people around him

Belzer Rebbe, note all the different kinds of dress of the people around him

Belzer Rebbe presumably with Chassidim, all different kinds of dress

Belzer Rebbe, again people around him in all kinds of dress (remember these are black and white photos)

And Belz again

now compare to Telzer yeshiva men in much more uniform dress

note also the difference in how the chassidim are closer together, arm in arm etc, affectionate, often smiling, and the yeshiva guys are stiff, some variety in dress but less than the chassidim, telz again

Similarly the claim today is that the blind obedience to rabbanim comes from the Chassidim. but chassidic rebbes didn't dictate how to think and act all day long. It's when you came to them on certain matters that the obedience was seen, and even then the Rebbes were practical, understood their chassidim, and didn't operate from the singular notion that every jewish male should be in yeshiva studying brisker lomodus on yeshivish perakim of Gemara. The obedience of today comes much more from the yeshiva world which operates on very simple notions and takes its own thoughts very seriously as they claim to be intellectual based. conformity is much worse when it starts in the mind.
