Come to shiur

I read a famous Mashgiach talk about his work at a yeshiva. His job was to make sure the boys came on time. If they were late, he'd fine them or not let them in. That's it. That's all he did. That's the spiritual adviser at a Manalist yeshiva. Was there any insight into the boys? Was there any understanding of how they might not been so keen to arrive on time so they could spend the next 14 hours arguing about Gemara abstractions? None of that. All they ever do is say, come to shiur. If he came to shiur he'd understand the Gemara. That's what they'll say. Yet the shiur is a cluster f, if you know the term. It's a balygon. It's the Tazmanian devil, as the shiur masters make everything as confusing as possible, in mixed languages, none of which they ever teach. But if it doesn't work out, it's because you didn't come to shiur, to be idle, to be confused, to be crushed, day after day after day. And why? Because Gemara lomdus is their god. The shiur is a kind of pseudo religious ceremony just like a rock n'roll concert with all its trappings is a kind of fantasy fake religious experience. It's voodoo. If you wave your thumbs around and rant like an auctioneer and say as much pilpulim as possible, it will make the life wonderful. Hokus pokus. And it's all they know, all they care about. They don't care about people, about their own students. They run schools but have no interest in education. They don't really run schools. They run yeshivas, which are Gemara factories. They are slave masters. They are the factory bosses and they start yeshivas so they can continue with their Gemara worship.
